In Part 2 we explore the last two of five mistakes you might be making to get rid of your back, neck, shoulder or hip pain and delaying your recovery. Find out here…
In Part 1, we discussed three of five mistakes I commonly discover people make in trying to get rid of their back, neck, shoulder and hip pain. These mistakes are: leaving the pain and hoping it will go away by itself; throwing everything at the pain to cure it and doing lots of exercises, no exercises or the wrong type of exercises.
Here are two more mistakes I’ve discovered people make.
- Mistake Number 4 – Doing The Same Thing For Months or Years and The Problem Is Still The Same or Worse.
I knew of one lady who, when she came to see me, had been seeing her Chiropractor for over two years about an on-going back pain. She was limited in the activities she could do and it was disturbing her sleep. She went to see him every week and he gave her no after care exercises. After seeing me for four sessions, this lady told me that she had more movement, she could go down onto the floor and get back up again with ease, she could now do her gardening again, which she was unable to do before and she was now getting better sleep.
Here’s the thing, sometimes you can be doing the same thing to rid your pain, but if after a while that particular solution is not making a difference in the level of your pain, it’s time to try something else.
Depending on the pain problem, I normally set a bench mark of seeing an improved difference in about six sessions. If nothing has improved, then it’s time to take a different approach. Avoid sticking with a method that is not helping you.
- Mistake Number 5 – D.I.Y – Doing It Yourself
With good intentions when we experience pain we do our best to sort it out ourselves, but I find when people come to me in pain and explain what they’ve done to help themselves, they’ve often used the right solutions incorrectly or applied the wrong techniques.
This is why it’s always advisable to seek professional help from a specialist as soon as you can and especially if after a while the pain is not going or it gets worse.
So, if you’ve been struggling to sort out your back, neck, shoulder or hip pain and you recognise you’ve been making any of the mistakes mentioned before, then seek professional help as soon as you can. This is what I and my clients do to get out of pain. Let me know how you get on.
