Thought I’d share this….
I’ve just eaten my evening meal and it felt so freeing to get up from the dining table, and walk into the kitchen, not feeling heavy in my stomach.
I remember years ago, I had no control over my eating!
I ate what I wanted, when I wanted and when it came to my main meals, I ate until I was stuffed! Even though my stomach would ache and I’d be in pain, I somehow kept eating this way.
During my talks and my sessions with my clients, when I share with them the actual size of their stomach, and compare that to a portion size of a meal, they look at me in dis-belief! It makes me laugh each time!
You see, for a majority of us (myself included), we were brought up in a time where food was scarce or expensive to buy, so whatever was put on our plate we had to eat it ALL! No matter the size of the food portion or whether you were hungry or not because sometimes that was the only decent meal we were going to eat that day.
So, this habit of piling up the plate and eating until you were stuffed followed me into adulthood.
What changed for me where I now comfortably eat until I’m satisfied rather than stuffed, was the fact that after burning out, part of my recovery process was to re-educate myself on the best foods to eat for my body, when to eat, as well as, how to eat.
When I eat nutritionally and eat quality food, my body doesn’t require that much in terms of quantity.
It’s the nutrients in the food our bodies are after and not to be stuffed!
Each of us have been “trained” to eat in a certain way. For some, it’s to eat until you feel full or stuffed. For others, eat in small quantities a bit at a time.
The question is, how is what you eat and how you eat working out for you?
